Connection and Power Up.

  1. Contact the ARC and place the DualCom GPRS on test with the ARC.
  2. If Fast Format pin triggering is being used, then connect the DualCom’s inputs to the panels outputs using fly lead provided by Castle and ignore the section “Panel programming for SIA format” below.
  3. Connect the PSTN connections, on the PSTN card, using the broadband filter provided. (Install broadband filter even if there is no broadband present to future proof site).
  4. Then connect from “DIAL” port to the on board panel digi A&B terminals.
  5. Connect the aerial provided mounting it vertically.
  6. Connect the positive and negative (the DualCom will then power up and display version number, followed by the grade and then “ro” registering on the network). Once registered, the top SVC LED will be pulsing like a heartbeat. The signal strength will then be displayed 0-99%. At this stage the DualCom may start sending signals c1, c2, c3, flashing A – which indicates that some channels maybe signalling the wrong way round. These channels will need to be inverted later. See step 1 on programming and testing.
  7. Leave the DualCom to settle for a 2 minute period, this allows it time to complete its own internal survey, which you may see on the display: 0, 0.1, 0.2 and so on. This is the number of base stations the unit has found. Once complete the signal strength will again be displayed.
  8. We recommend a signal above 40% but with introduction of the WorldSIM signal strength on the display is not that critical. The DualCom will always try to use its preferred network primarily on initial power up but if a low signal strength is displayed this does not mean that other networks in area are also low. The DualCom will show the signal strength of the network it’s currently locked on to. To check if other networks are available then contact our technical support desk who can tell you how many base stations the DualCom can see and strongest signal strength. Contact details on page 3.
  9. The DualCom is now ready for programming and testing.
