Corporate Responsibility

COMMUNITY

CSL work hard and invest carefully to remain successful and sustainable for the benefit of our employees and shareholders as well as the wider community and the environment.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been delighted to support our local NHS hospitals and staff members. In 2020 and 2021, we provided fresh juices and smoothies to help keep front-line staff refreshed on a well-earned break during their long shifts. This included drinks to Harefield Hospital, located just 1 mile from our Head Office.

We provided a further 200 drinks to both Royal Berkshire Hospital and Great Western Hospital, situated close to our office in Newbury. The former also provided expert care for a member of CSL staff when they were terminally ill - so this was an additional thank you from our team.

Furthermore, we were delighted to donate some of our well-loved CSL water bottles to the staff at Amadeus Recovery House at the beginning of 2021. Amadeus Recovery House is a community-based short stay house, offering people experiencing a mental health crisis in Ealing, West London an alternative to a hospital stay. The recovery house provides a safe and restful space for people who need help to get through an episode of acute mental illness and begin their recovery.

At CSL, we have close working relationships with front-line services including the police, fire brigade and ambulance services. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work during this challenging time.

In August 2021, team members, Joe Sheppard and Max Stevens,  took part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon with their dads and raised over £2,000 for the charity, Footprints Conductive Education Centre. The charity  have been supporting children and their families with disabilities since 1981 by helping to develop the skills that they need to achieve their potential.

In October 2021, team members took part in a company rounders game and bake sale in aid of World Mental Health Awareness Day!  We were delighted to raise over £140 for the Mental Health Foundation. Click here to find out more.

The team also took part in a spooky bake-off sale for Halloween and raised over £250 in aid of Footprints Conductive Education Centre.

SUPPORT FOR APPRENTICES

Apprentices for Fire & Security

We are a founding partner of Apprentices for Fire & Security (A4FS), an industry initiative that aims to place apprentices into careers in the industry and help close the skills gap. Since its conception, A4FS has provided a career for thousands of young people in the security industry including installers, engineers, technicians, customer service personnel and locksmiths. In 2010, during its inaugural year, A4FS caught the eye of the national press and was endorsed by The Daily Telegraph who cited the Fire & Security Sector as a “booming marketplace with bright prospects, excellent retention rates and good prospects”.

The initiative captured the attention of the British Government which led to a roundtable at Westminster with the then Skills Minister, Matthew Hancock, who commented: “This Government is on the side of employers that invest in the skills of their people - and we're working with businesses to ensure that the Apprenticeships programme is rigorous, responsive and delivers the high quality training which employers really value. By conducting its own campaign to deliver more Apprenticeships, the security industry is giving ambitious young people the opportunity to build rewarding careers in the sector and laying a firm foundation for sustained growth.”

The stakeholders continue to work with the government and education providers to overcome the remaining barriers to employment in the security industry. Apprentices are versatile, encompassing a range of roles and Government funding for training costs is available, together with potential e-learning options for those without a nearby college. Simon Banks, CSL’s Founder and a co–founder of A4FS commented:

“We are extremely proud of our continuing support in developing the next generation of professionals for the broader security industry through the A4FS Initiative. Our investment runs alongside our own training, graduate and intern programmes and not only underlines our commitment to the sector but also to ensuring continuity of high-quality staff in our own company.”

WorldSkills UK

More recently, we have extended our support for apprentices since the launch of the inaugural Electronic Security Systems Competition at WorldSkills UK LIVE in 2019, which CSL proudly sponsored. The competition has been designed to reflect the role of an Electronic Security Engineer and the high standards that are expected within the industry. We hope that the event will increase awareness of the security and surveillance industry, encourage young people to consider a career as an engineer in the industry and raise the standard of training throughout the UK for those already working in the industry.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Diversity and inclusion is central to our working culture. We believe everyone should have an equal opportunity to be able to work with us and advance their careers in our company. As a relatively young company we were able to recognize from the outset that employing a diverse range of people is beneficial to the customers we serve and delivers real social and economic value to our business.

SUSTAINABILITY

At CSL we recognise that today more than ever, we must all work together to look after the environment. We are committed to taking active steps to reduce the use of consumable natural resources and minimise any potential negative environmental impact from our business activities and products.

Our products are manufactured in accordance with environmental legislations including RoHS and WEEE directives. All products are designed to minimise waste, operate at a low level of power consumption and offer remote access capabilities to reducing the carbon footprint of ourselves and our customers.

CSL are committed to operating in a responsible and sustainable manner - promoting reduction, reuse and recycling. We adhere to reducing the amount of packaging waste that goes to landfill and increasing the amount of packaging waste that is recycled and recovered. We are proud to say that the box that each of our products come in are made with recyclable cardboard. In addition to this, we repair and refurbish returns where possible which are then used as replacements on request.

Additionally, we are making a shift to ensure the promotional items we send out to our customers or take along to events, are sustainable where possible. We are conscious to ensure that these items are manufactured with eco-friendly materials to ensure they can be easily recycled at home or in an office environment.

Our employees are encouraged to be aware of their own environmental impact at work and given advice on how they can make a difference. From recycling to switching off equipment and lighting, everyone has a role to play. As a business, we understand that face to face meetings are important but also recognise that utilising teleconferencing and other remote communication methods can reduce our carbon footprint.

We are also making a conscious effort in reducing our waste and material consumption within our offices across the UK. We have invested in recycling bins for cardboard and plastic. We often look to see if unwanted items can be reused rather than disposed of, including such things as unwanted office furniture. Furthermore, we are proud to say that all our IT hardware is disposed of via a certified recycling company.
